The Next Door Villain podcast is accepting literary pieces for future episodes, and we want your help!
Each episode of The Next Door Villain Podcast focuses on a well-known fictional villain. Hosts Joe and Tiana attempt to understand and empathize with that character. The idea is, if we can learn to connect with characters that were literally designed to be hated, we might just have a chance to empathize with real life villains we encounter day to day.
At the end of each episode, we showcase a literary narrative that focuses on our villain. This is where you come in: We are challenging you to write a piece of literature that highlights the humanity within your favorite villain. We encourage you to think creatively and write from whatever perspective and in whatever forms you are most comfortable with.
Use the form below to submit the written text of your piece. If your piece is selected for the podcast, we will contact you to help record the audio. Please keep your pieces under 10 minutes in length (less than 1200 words approximately). We encourage you to write about any villain that inspires you, but if you're having trouble thinking of one, feel free to pick from the following list of some of our favorite villains:
Ursula (The Little Mermaid, Disney)
Medusa (Greek Mythology)
The Kingpin (Daredevil)
Lex Luthor (Superman)
Norman Bates (Psycho)
Gus Fring (Breaking Bad)
Napoleon the pig (Animal Farm)
Hades (Greek Mythology, Disney)
Tommy DeVito (Goodfellas)
Doctor “Egg Man” Robotnik (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Serena and/or Fred Waterford (The Handmaid’s Tale)
